3 Areas To Find Cheap Single Family Homes in Virginia beach

24 May 2011 3 Comments

Interested in an inexpensive single family home in Virginia Beach? If you’re new to the area, or new to our local real estate market in general, it can be an ordeal to find a good, inexpensive property. Below is a list of three of the most common areas to find bargain listings in Virginia Beach, along with info on how to search Virginia Beach Listings to find your perfect home.

First, a few things to keep in mind while you’re searching. It’s very difficult to find habitable single family homes for sale in Virginia Beach for under about $175,000. That’s just a fact, backed up by our experience helping buyers such as yourself in Virginia Beach. Homes in this price range and below may need a significant amount of work and may not pass appraisal. Second, get preapproved for you mortgage first, so you’ll know exactly where you stand. Even if you’re preapproved for $200,000, you can start at $175,000 and see if there’s anything out there…..if not, you’ll know you can go a bit higher and still be ok.

Here are three places to look for cheap homes:

#1 – ARAGONA

Aragona is a large area in the Northwest section of Virginia Beach, not far from Norfolk city limits and very convenient to most areas of Virginia Beach. If you live here, you’re only a few minutes to both interstates 64 and 264, 10 minutes to downtown Norfolk, 10 minutes to Chick’s Beach (the Chesapeake Bay side of Virginia Beach), and about 15 or 20 minutes to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. You’re no more than a couple of miles to the new Virginia Beach Town Center, and all sorts of shopping, restaurants, bars, and more. The homes here range from small (under 1000 square feet) to a bit larger (plus or minus 2000 square feet). An affordable, convenient area to find a home.

#2 – PRINCESS ANNE PLAZA

Princess Anne Plaza is an affordable area more central in Virginia Beach than Aragona, so it’s closer to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront by about 5 or 10 minutes. It’s equally convenient to shopping – Lynnhaven Mall, and the popular Hilltop shopping area are only minutes away – and Interstate 264 is essentially the northern border to the area. The homes here are similar in size and age to Aragona (development started in the 1950′s), but there’s a slight chance that you’ll find a more inexpensive home in Princess Anne Plaza.

#3 – DIAMOND SPRINGS

Diamond Springs is in the most Northwest section of Virginia Beach, convenient to Chick’s Beach and the Chesapeake Bay area along Shore Drive, and very close to Little Creek Amphibious Naval Base. It’s Northwest of Aragona, our #1 affordable area above, and essentially as far west as you can be and still be in Virginia Beach. Homes are similar in age to both Aragona and Princess Anne Plaza, and prices are similar as well, but it’s a much smaller area.

Finding an affordable home for sale in Virginia Beach can be a chore, but the three areas above will give you a good headstart. As always, an inexpensive home may be a tricky purchase. Make sure you drive by any properties you’re interested in to check out the neighborhood, and check out the local schools if you have children.
